On April 25, 2024, Balıkesir University (BAÜN) Ottoman Heritage Application and Research Center, Balıkesir Immigrants Culture, Solidarity and Assistance Association (BALBAL), the Library Community, and the Directorate of Health, Culture, and Sports, with the participation of BAÜN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Cevdet AVCIKURT, organized a panel titled “Balkan Migrations from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic.” The panel, attended by representatives from our university institutions, civil society organizations in the city, and experts from various universities in Istanbul, was chaired by Prof. Dr. Kenan Ziya TAŞ. Istanbul University Faculty of Literature Department of History lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neriman ERSOY HACISALİHOĞLU gave a presentation titled “Balkan Migrations in the Ottoman Empire,” Dr. Mustafa AKPINAR, President of the Balıkesir Immigrants Culture, Solidarity, and Assistance Association, presented on “The Migration of Bulgarians of Turkish Descent in the Republican Era and Balıkesir.” Following the panel, a screening of the short film “2 Yaka Yarım Aşk” (Two Shores, Half a Love) was held, followed by a discussion moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurdan TÜMBEK TEKELOĞLU and Orhan TEKELOĞLU, directors of the film, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serap SUNAY, Director of the Ottoman Heritage Application and Research Center, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Okan KOÇ, Academic Advisor to the Library Community.
