"MİLLİ MÜCADELEDE KUVA-YI MİLLİYE ŞEHRİ BALIKESİR" Information Festival

On May 15, 2024, Balıkesir University (BAÜN) organized the “Balıkesir, City of the National Forces in the National Struggle” Knowledge Festival in collaboration with the Ottoman Heritage Application and Research Center, the Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center, and the National Ideal Society. The opening of the event, held at the Malazgirt Hall of the Atatürk Congress and Culture Center, was attended by Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Cevdet Avcıkurt and Prof. Dr. Murat Doğdubay, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Zafer Aslan, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Suat Kara, academic and administrative staff, and students. The event began with an opening speech by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Cevdet Avcıkurt. In the first session, Prof. Dr. Kenan Ziya Taş chaired a panel discussion in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serap Sunay, Director of the Ottoman Heritage Application and Research Center, spoke on “The Greek Occupation and Atrocities in Balıkesir.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öğe, Director of the Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center, presented on “The General Situation in the Country and in Balıkesir after the Mondros Armistice Agreement,” and E. Lecturer Aydın Ayhan presented on “Resistance Movements in Balıkesir Against the Occupations.” The second session of the event, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Serkan Sarı, featured Research Assistant Azer Gürcan presenting “Roadmap from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic: Change and Transformation in the National Struggle” Associate Professor Fuat Özer presented on “The Balıkesir Congresses,” and Lecturer Ramazan Yaman delivered a presentation titled “Activities in Balıkesir and the Surrounding Area During the National Struggle: The Akbaş Ammunition Depot Raid.”
